League of Legends, or LoL, as it's abbreviated, is a multiplayer online battle arena video game published by Riot Games. It was officially released on October 27, 2009. The game is played either as a single player (solo) or with two teams of five players each.
The game is based on a continuous online battle between two teams of five players, with players starting as "newbies" and working their way up to fully-fledged champions using experience points, or XP as it's called in-game.
A player gains experience by killing the opposing team's minions, denoted as "meat," early on in the game and subsequently kills players. Experience points are awarded to the player with the most recent kill. The game is won by the team that kills the opposing team's General.
Important elements of the game
League of Legends is a game that revolves around accumulating gold, experience, and levels. The game uses these three factors to determine how well you are doing. Gold is the most common of these stats, with levels being the second most common statistic, while experience is not used as much. Your team's gold total will determine how many times you can buy items, while your level determines what items you can buy at each team shop.
Gold is earned by killing monsters or minions which are found on each lane of the map. Experience points are earned by standing near your jungle or killing enemy champions on any lane of the map while leveling up will grant you permanent stat boosts that stay even after death.
